Mona Lisa Overdrive by William Gibson

Goodreads page My rating: 4 out of 5 My review: I bow before W. Gibson’s ability to create sense of certain environment, of polluted narrow streets, London, wastelands, cyberspace. I still think Neuromancer was somehow better, but loved how various characters from Neuromancer and Count Zero played their parts here. It really got hold of me and didn’t let go until the last page was read.It seemed more user-friendly than previous parts, but maybe that’s just me getting used to the Sprawl slang…

Neuromancer by William Gibson

Goodreads page My rating: 5 out of 5 My review: What can I say? Chiba site got me. The Sprawl made me excited and Freeside finished me off. Great book all in all, with some parts that were quite hard to understand for me, but enjoyable still. And I just loved little intermezzo about Johnny Mnemonic. Just classic.

Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman

Goodreads page My rating: 5 out of 5 My review: I knew right away on the second page this is an extraordinary book. It pulled me right away into the world of London Below, with rat-speakers, angels, hunters and prey. There is nothing I can say that will truly express how much I enjoyed reading this book. It was exciting, scary, funny and oftentimes surprising. I loved all the characters, but I felt particularly engaged around Marquis de Carabas and the two good-hearted fellows: Mr. …

Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami

Goodreads page My rating: 5 out of 5 My review: Very, very readable. Probably most erotic book I’ve ever read :-) Extremely unexpected twists, and few really really depressing parts. Those parts made me think about life, death and everything in between. How happiness is really fragile and we are constantly balancing on the edge of dark, deep well about to fall down. One way or the other, well worth reading.

Pattern Recognition by William Gibson

Goodreads page My rating: 5 out of 5 My review: This was amazing. Best read in a loooong time. Ever felt like there are a few puppet masters of “public” opinion? This thriller/detective story (untraditionally non-sci-fi for William Gibson) will take you for a ride and make you wonder what opinions are your own. Follow Cayce Pollard, the hunter of tomorrow’s “cool” on her quest to uncover maker(s?) of intricate video footage appearing randomly on the Internet and you will “take a duck in your face”. …

Spook Country by William Gibson

Goodreads page My rating: 5 out of 5 My review: While I liked other W.G’s books more, this one is not to be missed either. It’s not a traditional sci-fi you would expect from W. Gibson, but it is nevertheless a suspense thriller filled with contemporary technologies and interesting twists. Gibson uses his standard technique of having 3-4 story-lines joining at some point together. However “standard” this technique is for Gibson, the story itself is unique and intriguing. …

Telling Lies: Clues to Deceit in the Marketplace, Politics, and Marriage by Paul Ekman

Goodreads page My rating: 4 out of 5 My review: Interesting topic for a book and mostly well written. A bit too much repeating (but I guess that’s for easier remembering). Plus some examples are a bit outdated (not that it changes their relevance). All in all a very interesting read that definitely needs more practice to actually become somewhat effective.

The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

Goodreads page My rating: 5 out of 5 My review: I’d say this is Little Prince for grownups, but it wouldn’t do it justice. The Alchemist made my cry, laugh and experience moments of pure happiness. It will either make you happy because you are following your heart, sad because you are not or excited about your destiny. For me at least, this is the best book I have ever read. …
